The Dundee Courier and Advertiser always used a phrase my Mum and I loved: “Former Dundee man…” Usually this was followed by something like “… found guilty of assaulting a telephone box in Newcastle.” I moved to Dundee in 1976. In the year 2000 I too would become a former Dundee man. I miss the beautiful location, the fresh air, the space, the banter, old friends. I don’t miss the weather, the crime, the niggling feeling of desperation and the poverty.
